Marlene was born on July 21, 1933, in Cumberland, Maryland, to Enos and Julia Bennett. After graduating from Fort Hill High School in 1951, she began her 27-year career as a Secretary at the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. Marlene and Dean McChung were married in 1951 and moved to Tulsa, Okla., in 1954. Marlene worked for Standard Oil Co., in Tulsa, Okla. the last fifteen years of her career. Later, Marlene married Richard “Dick” Spiers, in Tulsa, Okla., December 22, 1975. They moved to Ardmore in 1978 when Dick was transferred as manager of the New J.C. Then later the added bonus of becoming “NANA” to their five beautiful grandchildren was icing on the cake!
Marlene was a “people person” who always had a listening and sympathetic ear for her many friends, including many close neighbors over the years. She also could do her share of talking! Marlene held several offices including President of the Ardmore Welcome Club. She was also a past member of Red Bud Garden Club. She loved flowers which was evident by her large container gardens, especially Hibiscus, around the family swimming pool for 25 years. Marlene’s additional passion was playing pinochle, poker and Mexican dominos with her many cherished friends for more years than remembered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2020.
