Obituary of Lorna Holloway

Lorna Holloway, age 82, passed away on March 8, 2018 in Tucson, AZ. Memorial services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, March 19, 2018 in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest.

 

Lorna was born in Ogallala, Nebraska on July 14, 1935 to Dean and Elva Lugenbeel. The family was well travelled living in Wyoming, Nebraska and finally landing in Albuquerque, NM. Lorna graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in education. While in college, she was an active member of the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta. Lorna met Bill Holloway in Albuquerque, and they married on June 4, 1956. As a newlywed, she began her teaching career, which lasted a lifetime, in Albuquerque. Lorna and Bill began their family there as well and had three daughters, Tamara, Kelly and Debby.

 

Lorna and Bill moved to Walnut Creek, CA and then to Mt. Laurel, NJ following Bill’s career and with each move, Lorna took care of the family and continued with her teaching career. They moved to Ardmore, OK in 1976 and made it their permanent home.

 

For all that knew Lorna as a friend and as a colleague, you knew her as an energetic, compassionate and elegant lady. She spent a lifetime dedicated to teaching and giving back to her community with purposeful acts of kindness. She taught at Ardmore High School and at the Higher Education Center for over 25 years and during that time impacted many students with her passion for history and learning.

 

After retiring from teaching in the public school system, Lorna continued to serve her community through various organizations such as DAR where she served as Chapter Regent, Vice Regent, Treasurer and Chaplain. She also held a state office when she served as Oklahoma State DAR Kiamichi County District Director. Through her various DAR efforts, she focused on continuing to educate people and the importance of civic duty and was especially passionate about honoring veterans. Lorna was on the board of trustees of the Greater SW Historical Museum and an active member of the Carter County Democratic Women, Retired Teachers, Quilt Guild and Asbury Methodist Church.

 

Besides her work in the community, Lorna’s great passion was the care of her beloved family including her daughters, Tamara Holloway and Cynthia Ryder, Houston, TX; Kelly Holloway, Tulsa, OK and Debby Price, Tucson, AZ. She also held a special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Ronnie Price and her two grandsons, Eric and Nicholas Price. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and has left a lasting legacy of love in all of their hearts.

 

Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Holloway, and her parents, Dean and Elva Lugenbeel.

 

She is survived by her sister, Vicki Bachechi, Albuquerque, NM; four daughters: Tamara, Cynthia, Kelly, Debby; son-in-law, Ronnie Price, Tucson, AZ and two Grandsons: Eric Price, Oklahoma City, OK and Nick Price, Tucson, AZ.
