Mary Charlotte (Laster) Golloway, age 84, passed away on November 24, 2024, in Ardmore, Okla.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest.
Mary was born on February 1, 1940, in Greenville, PA to Helen Bailey Laster and Floyd Laster.
She lived on the Murdoch family farm in NE Ohio until leaving to attend Kent State University in 1958. Following her college graduation in 1962, she taught Spanish at Canton South in grades 1,2,3,7, 8, and 9-12. After moving to Oklahoma, she attained her MA in Spanish in 1969. She served as Dean of Student and Community Services, Registrar, and Community Services Officer at Murray State College for approx 20 years, enjoying developing and promoting programs via radio and television. Prior to joining Murray State, she served as the SODA Area Agency on Aging Director, covering 10 counties in southern Oklahoma.
She continued her life-long interest in Spanish language and culture by attending seminars in Mexico, Costa Rica and Peru, as well as teaching short courses for adults at the Ardmore Higher Education Center and teaching Spanish at Muenster, TX from 2000-2005. She also obtained her real estate broker's license and taught real estate classes at the Higher Ed. Center. She was a broker-associate with Wheatland Real Estate. She married William Oliver Golloway in 1965, divorced in 1976.
She is survived by her dear friend Bill Cronenwett, of Norman, Okla., her step-children: Mary Ellen Konopka, of Detroit, MI, Peggy G. Martin and husband David, of San Diego, CA, Fred Golloway and wife Marcia, of Lynnwood, WA, David Golloway, of Escondido, CA, Ginny Renegar and husband Tom, of Mt Lebanon, PA, Grandchildren: Anastasia K. Plonkey and husband Ron, of Troy, MI, Michael Martin, of Redwood, CA, Ryan Martin, of San Diego, CA, Abby Heller and husband Chuck, of Lynnwood, WA, Emily Hanson, and great-grandsons Owen and Aaron, of Everett, WA, Sam Golloway, and wife Rachael, and great-granddaughter Juniper of Edmonds, WA, and Craig Renegar and wife Amy, of Mt. Lebanon, PA.
She was a member of Arbuckle Sunrise Rotary, Ardmore Chamber of Commerce, First Presbyterian Church of Ardmore, the Ardmore Art Guild, and the Goddard Center Monday Morning Painters.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary Golloway’s name to Cross Timbers Hospice at 207 C St NW, Ardmore, OK 73401.
A visitation will be held before the service from 1:00 pm until services start.
