Obituary of Gregory Russell Sanders

Gregory Russell Sanders, age 72, passed away on September 5, 2024, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 14, 2024 in The First Christian Church of Marietta, Okla., with The Reverend Doctor Sharen Hale officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore, Okla. Gregory was born on June 21, 1952, to Russell Richard Stanton Sanders and Velma Marie (Griffin) Sanders in Pomona, California. While growing up, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended and graduated with honors from Ganesha High School in Pomona.. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Pomona. He enlisted in The United States Army in 1979 and served until he received an honorable discharge in 1983. He went to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and received a degree in Park Administration and Agriculture. He worked for Distribution Alternatives as a warehouse worker and retired in 2014. After his retirement, he moved to Burneyville, Okla., and Gregory moved his membership to Marietta First Christian Church. He moved to Ardmore in 2018, where he has lived since. Gregory loved to work in the soil and landscaping. Dedicated to his beliefs, he was a bible scholar, always studying the word of his Lord Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ellen Sanders. Gregory is survived by his sister, Doris Malone and husband, Luther S. of Ardmore, Okla., two nephews, Chris Malone and wife, Heather, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and Scott Malone, and three grandnieces, Adele Malone and husband Garret of Phoenix,Az Victoria Malone and Mercedes Malone. Visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, September 13, 2024 at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home.
