Please share a memory of W. Don to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Former Love County and Carter County resident, W. Don McMeans, age 84, died February 2, 2016, in Crossville, Tennessee. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 12, 2016, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1610 C ST. SE, in Ardmore, Okla., with Pastor Jody Ham officiating. Don was born on June 20, 1931, in Loves Valley, southeast of Marietta, Okla., to John Claude McMeans and Mary Magdelene Wallace McMeans. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He married Freida Jean Cox on October 22, 1955, and they were husband and wife for 47 years. Don was a lover of life, who never met a stranger and very seldom forgot a name. He enjoyed success in many endeavors throughout his life. After his college days, Don worked in the oilfield and with the Sante Fe Railroad. He loved the rodeo and enjoyed steer roping and steer wrestling. He owned many businesses through the years including cattle and horse ranching, but his passion was auctioneering and real estate sales. He operated McMeans Auction & Realty for over 35 years and conducted auction events all over the United States. Don was an avid camper and outdoorsman who enjoyed a great day on the lake or stream, a big elk hunt in the Rocky Mountains, telephoning up a mess of Red River channel cats, a good ole Southern Oklahoma Quail hunt, or a beautiful day on the golf course with good friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freida and brothers Red, Kenneth, W.J., and Fred T. McMeans. Don is survived by son Greg McMeans and wife, Patty, of Lone Grove, Okla., daughter Kimberlea McMeans of Crossville, Tenn., and son, Shanon McMeans and Paul Tangari of Lavergne, Tenn., and granddaughter Stacey Lauren McMeans of Oklahoma City, Okla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
