Obituary of Mary Lee Norberg-Mitchell

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Committed to the Lord Jesus Christ, Mary Lee Norberg-Mitchell passed from this earthly life the morning of January 23, 2024. Loved by family and friends, Mary was preceded in death by parents Edwin and Althea Norberg and husband Joseph (Mitch) Mitchell. Mary is survived by her sister Jane Phend (Great Barrington, MA) and her children John & Susan Stahl (Williamston, NC), Scott & Shelly Stahl (Ardmore, OK), Kristine Rogers (San Antonio, TX) and Patricia & Fady Shenouda (Long Beach, CA). Mary was blessed with 9 grandkids and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear first cousin Cynthia Duthie (Huntington Beach, CA). Born in Van Nuys, California on September 14, 1942, Mary grew up in Southern California before moving to Oregon and ultimately settling in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She enjoyed long walks, studying the Bible and worshiping with her church family at the House of Prayer in Ardmore. She was always known for her loving nature and quick to give you a smile and a kiss on the cheek, even to the end. Prior to moving into Woodview Home, Mary lived in the Ardmore Village Retirement Senior Citizen Housing for 11 years and she helped numerous residents adjust to changes in daily life. Mary volunteered for the Oklahoma Blood Institute and she knit countless beanies for blood donors, cancer patients and anyone in need. For her countless volunteer hours, and donated beanies, Mary was awarded INCA Community Services of Southern Oklahoma - RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) 2017 Volunteer of the Year. The family would like to thank the employees at Woodview Home for providing a loving home for her these last 5 years and we send a special thank you to Good Shepherd Hospice for their care these last 4 months. Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home is handling the cremation of Mary’s body. A portion of her ashes will be placed at the family gravesite at Rose Hill Cemetery for anyone desiring to visit. The California coast was her happy place and her remains will be laid to rest during a private ceremony by her children and family on the beach this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Oklahoma Blood Institute (2235 Merrick Dr., Ardmore, OK 73401) or Good Shepherd Hospice (1505 N. Commerce, Ardmore, OK 73401). A portion of Mary’s estate will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association (http://www.alz.org). Mary loved the Psalms, therefore we leave you with this: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” Psalm 23:1-3
