Obituary of Janice Yvonne Peery (Skaggs)

Janice Yvonne Peery (Skaggs) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 30, 2023, in the Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home. Services will conclude in the chapel. She was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on December 4th , 1939, to Clyde and Lena Minter. Janice attended Plainview School where she graduated in 1957. While in high school she played basketball and made friends she would keep throughout her life. After graduating high school Janice married the love of her life, Larry Skaggs and was blessed with her daughter, Deborah and son, Scott just two years later. Janice was a loving mother and wife and loved being involved with her children’s school events which led to her to becoming a secretary in the Ardmore school system for many years. Janice especially loved watching Scott play football for Plainview and attended all his football games. She loved the Lord with all her heart and attended the First Orthodox Baptist church and later the First Baptist of Ardmore. Janice raised the kids in church and made sure they attended all the weekly services. Janice was very gifted with creating many things for her home. She made her own curtains, many crafts and even learned upholstering to refinish chairs for her home. Janice was very much a southern lady and loved to be dressed in the most fashionable styles. After 31 years of marriage, Janice became a widow. She later met Jack Peery and was married and blessed to spend time traveling. In her later years Janice lived at the Assisted Living Center, The Lodge in Ardmore. While there she loved spending her days drinking diet cokes and watching old classics and religious programs and reading the Bible. She would call Scott to bring her diet cokes and treats which Scott faithfully delivered to her. Janice was blessed to spend her final days in the home of Scott and daughter in law Joni where she was lovingly cared for until her passing. Janice was preceded in death by her husband Larry Skaggs and daughter Deborah Yvonne DeLisle. She leaves behind her sister Barbara Fisher, her son Scott Skaggs and wife Joni. Granddaughter Jennifer Moehrle and husband Brian, and great grandchildren, Blayke and Jett. Grandaughter Kyrsten Levesque and husband Trevor and great granddaughter Eden. She also leaves behind her step granddaughter Jessie Bellamy and husband Jake. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Griffin-Hillcrest.
