Obituary of Murray Greisman

Please share a memory of Murray to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Murray Greisman, age 83, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in his home in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 28, 2015, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla. He was born on December 29, 1932, at Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, New York, to Irving David Greisman and Pearle (Lubell) Greisman. Murray attended Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. He went on to obtain a Textile Engineering degree from Philadelphia Textile Institute, which is now Philadelphia University of Philadelphia, Penn. He was drafted into the United States Army on December 6, 1953, and served his country as a member of the Military Police during the Korean War. From grade school through college, Murray worked in his family business. Along with his father, Irving, and three uncles, Seymour, Moe, and Jack, they supported their families through the “Greisman Kiddie Shops,” children’s clothing stores in Harlem and New York City. After meeting the love of his life, Miss Joan Duman, they were married on June 22, 1958, in Long Beach, New York. Murray led a successful career as a textile engineer, designing menswear textiles through 1977 for Burlington Industries and Collins & Aikman. Overseeing the manufacturing of his designs led him from the mills of the Southern United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, as well as Germany and Poland. After years of travel, he moved his family to Phoenix, Arizona, where he used his engineering skills to manage a foam pad wholesale carpet operation. During this time, he achieved his goal of having more quality time with his family. His hobbies included painting, reading, stock market management, racquetball, swimming, playing the piano, and gardening. However, his most memorable interest was his skill of storytelling and the presentation of a good joke. Murray was a devoted son, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of honor and truth; moreover, he was an example for what a man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend should be. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ruth Nachman, and nephew, Jeffrey Nachman. Murray is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Joan, of the home. Son, Ira Greisman of Las Vegas, Nevada, son, Richard Greisman and wife, Sandy, of Ardmore, Okla. And daughter, Debbie Richey of Laguna Niguel, California. Nine grandchildren: Matthew and wife Sabra, Samara, Eric, Brian, Rachael, Michael, Adam, Ashley, and Grant. Four nieces and one nephew and their families. The family will greet visitors on Friday evening, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, February 26, 2016, at Griffin~Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
