They built their life around their five children, Christopher, Jared, Chellsee, Candace, and Kara. He went on to work at Ardmore Construction Supply, MMI, and Hu-don Manufacturing. Following retirement, he continued to utilize his hands-on skills and worked diligently to help support his community, family, friends, and church. He enjoyed fellowship with his brothers and sisters in Christ throughout his life. Johnny was a Assistant song leader and Childrens Sunday School teacher at Southside Baptist Church. He continued his walk at Durwood Missionary Baptist Church, where he was the Sunday School Director, trustee, and active congregation member until his passing. Along with fellowship, Johnny enjoyed cooking, fishing, and storytelling (“It’s up to you whether or not you believe them”--Joyce).
