Geary Leon Gannon, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at his home in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church of Ardmore with Pastor Donnie Custar officiating.
Geary was born on November 8, 1947, in Wynnewood, Okla., to Leon and Opal (Dotson) Gannon. His family moved to Martinez, Calif., and later in 1965 to Yuba, Okla., where he met his future wife. Geary married Miss Connie Elizabeth Alexander on March 24, 1966, in Durant, Okla. They moved to Texas and he found work as a mechanic. In 1976, they moved to Modesto, Calif., and lived there for five years. The family moved to Seldovia, Alaska, where Geary worked as Maintenance Manager for the City of Seldovia. They returned to Yuba, Okla., for a time where he opened Gannon’s Automotive. They returned to Soldotna, Alaska, and returned to his job with the City of Soldotna as Maintenance Manager. Geary retired in 1996 and moved to Ardmore, Okla., to be closer to family. He worked for Dollar Tree at their distribution center as a Maintenance Manager until retirement in 2013. Geary will be remembered for his love of Family and being Papa. He was a ham radio operator, Geary’s call sign was WL7XR. He loved working in his yard , being outside, and hunting. He was a Nascar fan and enjoyed riding his Harley. He and his son loved to build and race cars for drag and circle track racing. He will be remembered for his ability to tell a good story. Geary was a man who could use his hands and was known as a “jack of all trades.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Opal Gannon.
Geary is survived by his wife, Connie Gannon of the home. Daughter, Marsha Giles, son, Johnny Leon Gannon and wife Robin, and daughter, Kristi Giles. Grandchildren: Ashley Giles, Alyssa Giles, Trista Gannon and fiance’ Derrick Hunt, Kirsten Giles, BreAnna Hamman, Jonathon Leon Gannon, Cierea Giles, and Alexis Giles. Great-grandchildren: Dexter Karon, Wade Hamman, Beau McDonald, and June Hamman. Sister, Vonya Zae Lang and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 4, 2015, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Griffin~Hillcrest of Ardmore, Okla.
