Obituary of Jerrel Daul Allen

Jerrel Daul Allen, age 92, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Ardmore with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Jerrel was born on February 15, 1931, to Hugh and Eula Mae (Johnson) Allen. He grew up in the Dickson, Oklahoma area where he enjoyed running through the creek bottoms, hunting, fishing, and trapping with friends. Jerrel was an accomplished boxer at Dickson High School in his teen years. After graduating from Dickson High School, Jerrel enlisted in the Navy. He served in the Korean war where he was stationed in the Philippine Islands. Afterwards he served 2 years in Washington D.C., where he enjoyed going to professional baseball games in his spare time. He was fortunate to watch Mickey Mantle and many other famous baseball players during this time. After returning home from the Navy, Jerrel met the love of his life, Zelma Fern (Elledge) Allen. The two married and began their family in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Jerrel worked at his Pak-A-Sak grocery store where he made many wonderful, lifelong friends. Jerrel loved hunting and fishing when he had time off from work. He also coached several little league baseball and softball teams as well as commercial softball teams. After retiring, Jerrel threw himself into the church and volunteer work. He served the First Baptist Church Saturday Mission for many years. Jerrel loved spending time at the Mission helping others. Jerrel never met a stranger and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with his many friends at church. Even after his health declined and he was not able to attend church in person, he watched his church on TV every Sunday and he kept in touch with church friends over the phone. Jerrel was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma of the home. His parents: Hugh and Eula Mae Allen. His brothers: Floyd Allen and Marvin Allen. His sisters: Ethel White, Ruby Carpenter, Bertie Edna Allen, and Hughlene Burnett. Son-in-Law, Michael Lee. Jerrel is survived by two daughters: Cynthia and husband Fred Shirley, and Kimberly Lee and significant other, Brian Geurin. Son, Bradley Allen and wife Kerrie. Grandchildren: Chris Walker, Brian Walker and wife Stacie, Chelsea Hicks and husband Alek, Dusty Norman and wife Jordan, Michaela Lee, Christyn Sawyers and husband Dalton, Darion Allen, Kevin White, Rachel Hembree and husband Colton. Great Grandchildren: Blakelyn, Kyler, Paislee, Maverick, and Collins. Pallbearers: Dusty Norman, Brian Walker, Kevin White, Alek Hicks, Dalton Sawyers and Colton Hembree.
