Obituary of Sonya Joan (Gordon) Holmes

Sonya Joan (Gordon) Holmes, age 60, passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Tulsa, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 14, 2023, at McLish Church of Christ of Ardmore, Oklahoma, with Minister Albert Rice officiating. Sonya was born on July 27, 1962, to Oliver J. Gordon and Loretha (Gooden Gordon) Patterson. She attended Lawton Eisenhower High School at Lawton, Oklahoma. Sonya entered into a relationship with Billy Abram and from this union came son, Brian Gordon. She later married John Smith and from this marriage came son, Michael Eugene Smith. She moved to Tulsa on June 20, 1997, where she worked for Hillcrest Hospital. She met Willy Holmes there and married him. They moved to Ardmore and then in 2016 to Madill, Oklahoma. Sonya worked for the Ardmore Public School System. After her health declined, she moved to Tulsa so that her sister Saundra could care for her. If not at work, she would help anyone she could, and enjoyed taking care of children. She was known for her passion for having a clean home. She loved working her puzzle books and playing video games. She was preceded in death by her father, Oliver J. Gordon, husband, Willie James Holmes, and brother, Winfred Gordon. Sonya is survived by her mother, Loretha Patterson and husband, Johnnie, of Ardmore, sons: Brian Gordon and wife, Natasha, and Michael Smith, all of Ardmore. And Stormy Thomas, who she raised as her own child. Siblings: Saundra (Gordon) Skates and husband, William, of Tulsa, Danny R. Gordon, Sr., and wife, Dawn, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Angela (Gordon) Lane of Madill. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
