Obituary of Virginia Sue Bartgis

Virginia Sue Bartgis, age 81, passed away at her home in Ardmore, Okla., on Monday, February 23, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Christ Community Church of Christ of Ardmore with Pastor Artie Farve officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore. Services under the direction of Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home. Virginia was born on December 31, 1933, to Tom Lee and Bertha (Allen) Lee at Wapanucka, Okla. She graduated in 1952 as an All-Star Basketball Player. Her portrait is still displayed at the Wapanucka School Gymn. She married the love of her life, Dee Bartgis, in 1953. Dee and Virginia had lots of family in Oklahoma and always kept an open door for family and friends. They started their family with the birth of Deanna, then Glenna, and completed the family with twins, Larry and Garry. Virginia worked alongside her husband, Dee, in the Bartgis Grocery Store and later in their trucking business, as well as being the best full-time mom for her children. In her earlier days, she enjoyed bowling, and always loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching Thunder Basketball games with Dee. She was a charter member of Christ Community Church of Ardmore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Bartgis, her parents, Tom and Bertha Lee, six sisters, and two brothers. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Deanna Oldham, of Ardmore, daughter, Glenna Cathcart, and husband, Charles, of Ardmore, son, Garry Bartgis, and wife, Cathy, of Ardmore, and son, Larry Bartgis, and wife, Rita, of Grand Prairie, Texas. Grandchildren; Justin Allen, Ryan Oldham and fiancée, Taylor Riggs, Nick Bartgis and wife, Rachel, Derek Bartgis, Laramie Bartgis, Brian McDonald, and Lisa McDonald. Great-grandchildren; Trenton Bartgis and Travis Bartgis. Special niece/sister, Francis Arnold, of Oklahoma City and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Everett Morris, James Heard, Tommy Epperson, Perry Payne, Glen Burns, and Tom Brandt. Honorary bearers will be Richard Bob Harris, Todd Morris, Frank Hobbie, and Rodney Culbertson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, February 25, 2015, at Griffin~Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either Christ Community Church children’s ministry of Ardmore, 2620 Mt Washington Rd, Ardmore, OK 73401, or to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 C Street Northwest, Ardmore, OK 73401.
