Carol June Duke, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at her home in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2016, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest with interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore, with Pastor Morgan Ashworth officiating. Carol was born on September 3, 1940, to Victor C. Taylor and Claudine (Dean) Taylor in Sherman, Texas. Her family moved to Oklahoma City and later to Del City, Okla., where she attended school. Carol met the love of her life in September 1956 at the Oklahoma State Fair and married Homer Donald “Pete” Duke Jr. in Oklahoma City on March 30, 1957. The couple moved to Ardmore, Okla., to be close to Homer’s work. She worked for a short time for Stromberg-Carlson, Montgomery Ward, and Dickson Schools, but for most of her life she was a homemaker, devoting herself to her family. She made sure all of her children and grandchildren knew how to swim. In her youth, she and Pete bowled on bowling leagues. Carol loved caring for her labs, who she would go for long walks with. She loved the outdoors and painting landscapes with water colors. She was very knowledgeable of the names of any bird or flower there was. She was preceded in death by her Father. Carol is survived by her husband, Homer “Pete’ Duke Jr. of fifty nine years, of the home; mother, Claudine Laney, of Durham, North Carolina; sons: Troy Duke, and wife, Linda, of Dickson, Okla., and Homer Ray Duke and wife, Crystal, of Dickson, Okla.; daughter, Karen Wilson and husband, Harvey, of Lone Grove, Okla. Ten grandchildren: Kimberly, Shawn, Tiffany, Jose, Jamie, Echo, Evie, Jeana, Tracy, and Somer, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Brother, Dwight Laney and wife, Peggy, of Wilmington, North Carolina; sister, Yuvonne Roberts and husband, Tony, of Bahama North Carolina; and a host of family and friends. Family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, April 8, 2016, at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore, Okla.
