Verna Rae Carnes, age 71, passed away on October 20, 2021, in Ardmore, Okla. Memorial services will be 2:00pm, Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home with Reverend Cecil Westervelt officiating. Cremation with care under the direction of Hillcrest Crematory. Rae was born on September 11, 1950, to Donald Lewis Jackson and Mildred (Awana) Jackson, in Bremerton, WA. She lived at Manhattan Beach, Calif. for 20 years and then Redondo Beach, Calif. for 5 years. She married Saul McGarity Sr. on August 13, 1972 in California. In 1977, she moved to Torrance, Calif. and bought a home. Rae then moved to Oklahoma in 1992. She was Irish/Hawaiian and had a love for the ocean. She worked for CASA for 13 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Russell Brittain. Rae is survived by her daughter, Desireé McGarity and her fiancé, Chris Westervelt, son, Saul (Woody) McGarity Jr., grandchildren, Baylee Madison, Dylan McGarity, Cail Westervelt and Christian Westervelt, and two sisters. Honorary family members; Jolene Coffey, Amie Reinke, Joelie Wasson, Roxanne Kunzelman, Darrell Frank, Cassiti Furman, Cecil Westervelt, and the John and Brad Gibbs family. The family is requesting that anyone coming to service wear something turquoise as it was Rae’s favorite color. Casual attire is also welcomed. Condolences may be left at www.griffinhillcrest.com.
