Obituary of Laverne (McCurtain) Johnson

Laverne (McCurtain) Johnson, age 85, passed away on September 11, 2021 with her family by her side at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at The Chapel Griffin ~ Hillcrest, Ardmore, with Pastor Eugene Christian officiating. Interment to follow in Enville Cemetery, Enville Okla. Laverne was born on August 14, 1936, to Robert Walker McCurtain and Florence Etta (Smith) McCurtain, at Enville, Oklahoma. Owner and operator of Club 70 and, at the same time, she ran the Stag Bar in Ardmore. Laverne loved to play pool and won many tournaments. She enjoyed dancing and singing. She liked to attend ballgames and rodeos. Laverne was known for her quilting, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Walker McCurtain and Florence Etta Diemer, and stepfather, Dutch Diemer, husband, Tommy Johnson, son, Wayne Johnson, brother, Holmes McCurtain, half- brother, James McCurtain, half-sister, Evelyn Berry, step-brother, Lester Diemer, two step-sisters: Rosetta Dobbs, Lois Shaver, and daughter-in-law, Renea Johnson. Laverne is survived by her sons, Danny Wells and wife, Debra, of Earlsboro, Okla., Randy Johnson of Lone Grove, Okla., and Deano Johnson and wife, Tina, Ardmore, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Half-sister, Nina Love of Lone Grove and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Casket bearers will be Hector Almaraz, Zachery Nelson, Christian Almaraz, Dakota Vanbebber, Dustin Edwards, Randy Suggs, Cody Simes, and Bubba Simes. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, September 14, 2021, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest of Ardmore. Condolences may be left at www.griffinhillcrest.com.
