Carol May Almon was born on April 17, 1931 at her parent’s home in Ardmore. She went to be with the lord on May 2, 2021 at the age of 90. Graveside services will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Pastor Randal Richards officiating. Carol was born at the start of the Depression to Charles and Wilmont Rutledge. Carol, one of 5 children, grew up with 2 older siblings, Margaret Ann and Charles Salisbury. Her youngest brother and sister passed away in their early childhood. Carol grew up on the family farm and met the love of her life, Jack Almon, at the age of 13. They both knew they were destined to be married but had to wait until she grew up. She graduated from high school in 1949 and married her love, William F. “Jack” Almon on September 24th of that year. Carol and Jack raised two daughters, Lee Ann (Brad) Tande and Barbara Almon. Carol, or Nanny as her grandchildren referred to her, helped raise all of her grandchildren, Shannon, Keri, Geremy, Cindy and Jessica. Carol and Jack frequently took their grandchildren to many picnics at Lake Murray, to rodeos, on trips to Eureka Springs and Branson, roller skating, and numerous other frequent adventures. Family was the most important thing to Carol and she made it her passion to provide support, love and many, many memories with her grandchildren. Carol felt truly blessed with 10 great-grandchildren Austin, Ryan, Alexis, Hunter, Wilfred, Blake, Madison, Kylie, Karlie, Baby Geremy and 2 great-great granddaughters Alessia and Rylee, and one great-great grandson, Kanicq. Carol worked for Exchange National Bank for 33 years, retiring in 1995. She loved working at the bank and continued to keep friendships with fellow bankers. Carol loved to bowl and was a member of many bowling leagues, recognized in the Ardmorite for tournament wins. In her retired life, Carol enjoyed spending time at various Senior Centers playing cards, dominoes, eating lunch, and visiting friends. Carol also loved to crochet doilies, pot holders, and make quilts. She took several college courses at the Fort Peck Community College while living in Montana with her daughter Lee Ann. She learned to bead coin purses, make Star Quilts, wall hangings and other Native American craft projects. You would often find Carol crocheting, beading, reading a novel or completing a Word Search. Her favorite pastime was to sit and visit with family, playing cards or dominoes. She made many memories in Montana and lasting impressions on friends and acquaintances. Carol will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Carol was preceded in death by her husband Jack Almon; her parents Charlie and Wilmont Rutledge; her sisters Nancy Lee and Margaret Ann; her brothers William Thomas and Charles Salisbury; daughter Lee Ann Tande; son-in-law Tommy Fox; and granddaughter Cindy Almon. She is survived by her grandchildren Shannon, Keri, Geremy (Kimberly) and Jessica; great-grandchildren Austin, Ryan, Alexis, Hunter, Wilfred, Blake, Madison, Kylie, Karlie, and Baby Geremy; great-great granddaughters Alessia and Rylee, and great-great grandson, Kanicq. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
