Please share a memory of Vera to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vera Ann Mackey, age 67, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020, in her home in Lone Grove, Okla., after a short battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 31, 2020, in Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood, Okla. Ann was born on August 7, 1952 to C.R. Mackey and Lavera Canada Gibson, who predeceased her. She was a Byng High School graduate of 1970 during her senior year she was the school mascot. Throughout high school and into her early 40’s she enjoyed gymnastics. Her passion in life was being with her children, grandchildren as well as family and friends. She enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles. More importantly, she loved our heavenly father, Lord Jesus Christ. Ann’s final prayer was for each and all to grow closer to God, for her faith in God was far exceeding than anyone can imagine as he answered many prayers and gave her 6 months past the weeks the doctors stated she had. Her prayer for each of you is to know and love God as she loved God so when your time here on this earth ends she may greet you next to our Lord Jesus at the gates of Heaven. Ann’s final request was to state that if you truly knew her, that the only man she truly loved was John Penney and although they fought like cats and dogs, said many unspeakable names to one another throughout their relationship (marriage and divorce) that they loved one another more than one truly knows. She and Johnny mended their relationship through the love of Jesus Christ and together they worshiped and loved our Lord Savior. One of many things she loved about Johnny was his ability to help her understand the more about the bible so that she was able to strengthen her faith in God, who helped her thru this battle of cancer. Ann’s final statement to her children, I love you as big as the world never forget and trust in God to give you the strength to carry on, as your daddy and I will be waiting for you when God decides to bring you home. She is preceded in death by her parents; one sibling, Ricky Don Mackey; two grandchildren, Christopher and Cayden Penney, and the love of her life, John Edward Penney. Ann is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Latisha and Joel Sawyer of Pineville, Louisiana; her daughter and son-in- law, Stormy and Calvin Knight of Lone Grove, Okla.; her son, John Casey Penney, two sons found and adopted three years ago, Johnny Stone and wife Dee of Texas; Jimmy Ratcliff and wife, Ruth of Texas; her two brothers, Calvin “Cowboy” Mackey and wife Kathy; and Alva Rue Mackey; four step siblings, Karen Inselman, Mark Gibson, Larry Gibson, Jeanie Rapier; ten grandchildren, Ladessa Barber, Latristan Barber, Mikalee Sawyer, Jamelle Knight, Quela Knight, Haven Penney, Chloe Penney, Cashlynn Penney, John Penney, Ariah Penney and Reyah Penney; and five great grandchildren, Gavin, Kaison, Adilynn, Ashton, and Nova-Ann as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
