Obituary of Mary Anne Longest

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Anne Longest, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, while a resident of Collinsville, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Mary Anne Longest was born in McAlester, Oklahoma, on August 15, 1937, to H. B. and Anne (Boswell) Eubank.  Mary Anne grew up in McAlester and graduated from McAlester High School in 1955.  She attended Texas Women’s University at Denton, Texas, where she was a member of the choir. She later transferred to Southeastern Oklahoma State University at Durant where she completed her elementary education degree.

Mary Anne and Billy C. Longest were married on June 21, 1958, and spent their first years together at Zanies, Ringling, and then at Dickson in southern Oklahoma.  They later moved to Adams, Oklahoma, where Mary Anne began teaching and taught for 2 years.  The family moved to Hooker, Oklahoma, in 1966 and taught for 28 years in the elementary school until her retirement in 1994.  While living in Hooker, Mary Anne was an active member of the United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women.  She was always ready and willing to help where needed, whether it was baking or cooking for church functions, helping with lunches at the Methodist Student Center in Goodwell, Oklahoma, or in some other capacity in the community.  She was a PEO member and also served as an officer of the Hooker Education Foundation.  She became a member of Boston Avenue Church in Tulsa after she and Bill moved to Collinsville in 2009, but never lost her love for her church and friends in Hooker.  Her love for her pets was exceeded only by her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Even when she began using a walker, her great-grandchildren loved to sit on the walker and let “Mimi” push them around the house.  Mary Anne’s friendly nature and ready smile continued even as her health deteriorated.

Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents, H. B. and Anne Eubank, and her brother, Bill Eubank.

Mary Anne is survived by her husband, Billy C. Longest of Collinsville, sons: Leslie (Cindy) Longest of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Chris (Marcia) Longest of Collinsville, and she was “Mimi” to grandchildren: Chisium (Krista) Longest of Duncan, Oklahoma, Lacy Longest of Oklahoma City, Lindsay (Mike) Rutherford of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Chelsea (Chris) Morehouse of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Caleb (Sarah) Longest of Blue Springs, Missouri, and great-grandchildren: Carter, Cannon, and Finley Longest of Duncan, Noah and Isaac Rutherford of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kennedy, Kason, and Kyler Morehouse of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Margeaux and Eisley Longest of Blue Springs, Missouri.
