Obituary of Edith V. Collins
Edith V. Collins, age 93, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 9, 2019, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park of Ardmore.
Edith was born to Thomas Black and Maggie (Austin) Black on December 19, 1925, in Minden, Louisiana. Her mother passed away when she was only three, and she was placed in a Methodist orphanage in Ruston, Louisiana. Where she completed high school went on to attended Louisiana Tech receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, she then moved to Oxnard, California, in 1945. Edith and Jackie Collins married on August 31, 1946. In 1956 she began her career working as a Clerk Typist at Point Mugu Naval Air Station. They lived in Moorpark, California, until 1988 when they moved to Ardmore. Edith was a member of the Lone Grove First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, crafting, working in her vegetable garden, her cats and fishing. Edith loved entertaining loved ones and friends, and cooking Sunday dinner for them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie in 2012, parents, twin daughters: Linda and Brenda, five brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Lewis and husband, Darrell of Eagle River, Alaska, and Phyllis Harwood and husband, Ed of Ardmore, grandson, Darrell “Larry” Lewis and wife, Andrea of Anchorage, Alaska, granddaughters: Edith Lewis Wittenburg of Wasilla Alaska and Angel Mitchell and husband, Mitch of Brunswick MD, and great-granddaughter, Alexandra Adams and husband Robert of Wasilla, Alaska.
