Obituary of David James Rice

David James Rice, age 58, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 11, 2019, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest with Pastor Steven Skinner officiating. Interment to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore.  

David was born on April 11, 1960, to Roger David Rice and Linda Francis (West) Rice in West Germany while his father was stationed there in the US Air Force. The family lived in California for a short while and in 1971 moved to the Ardmore area. David was a graduate of Ardmore High School and enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard. He served for 8 years and was honorably discharged. He worked as a diesel mechanic for most of his working life and worked for Rick Carrell for many years until poor health forced him to retire. He and Joyce Honecutt-Bass entered into a relationship in 1984. David was an avid guitar player and loved listening to his music. Just working with his hands was a joy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Francis Smith, his wife, Joyce Honecutt- Bass, brother, Daniel Steven Rice, and three infant sisters.

David is survived by his father, Roger David Rice, of Ardmore, sisters: Susan Cassity of Baltimore, Maryland, and Shirley Freeman and her husband, Bobby, of Ardmore, brother, Tommy Rice, of Ardmore, aunt, Gail B. Jeffrey, of Ardmore, and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home.
