Obituary of Doris Jean Battles

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Doris Jean Battles, age 84, passed away on January 7, 2019, in Plano, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum with Pastor Bob Lee officiating.

Doris was born on June 16, 1934, to Troy and Lucille (Armstrong) Patrick in Paris, Texas. When she was growing up her parents moved in with her father’s mother, Magnolia Patrick, better known as Maw. The happiest days of Doris’ life was when she was with her Maw and believed her grandmother could do no wrong. Doris married on July 25, 1953, and from this marriage came three children, Bill Dennis, Carla and Sharon. In her youth she was so pretty that the local hair dressers kept posters of her as a display showing off her hair (photo for obit was from the poster).  In the 60’s she had a resale shop called “Trash to Treasure” in her home.

Doris was an avid genealogist working with family to establish her family tree and history. She will be remembered for her generosity and big heart. She opened her home to five different families since 1975 until each family got established. She will always be remembered for making holiday meals the best. Doris had a green thumb and raised her rose garden from cuttings of others. She will be remembered as Granny to everyone; Doris always held a special place in her heart for Meri Pendergraft McAdams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Carla Renee’ (Battles) Fore, son, Bill Dennis Battles and sister, Patsy Willingham.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Sharon Battles and one granddaughter, Shelby Walker, both of Little Elm, TX., and a host of family and friends.
