Obituary of Mira DeMaurice (Prator) Barber

Mira DeMaurice (Prator) Barber died on April 28, 2018 in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 4, 2018, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore, Okla. with The Rev. David Daniel Officiating.  Interment to follow in Rosehill Cemetery.

 

DeMaurice was born on May 16, 1923 at Emerson Arkansas to Ned T. and Mary Nix Prator. The family moved to Magnolia, Arkansas and later moved to Ardmore OK in 1937.  She graduated from Ardmore High School in 1941 and attended at A&M College, now Southern State University, at Magnolia, Arkansas. She also worked at First National Bank in Ardmore. She and Avon Barber were married April 25, 1943 and lived at a number of air force bases where Avon was stationed. Avon was in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years, 7 months and 22 days. He retired in 1971 and they returned to Ardmore.  She was a member of the Ardmore First United Methodist Church, Cora Carlock Class; Daughters of the American Revolution; Magna Charter Dames; Colonial Dames of the 17th Century; Daughters of the American Colonist; Order of the Crown of Charlemagne of the United States; and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at the Ardmore Veteran’s Center and the Military Memorial Museum.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 70 years and 12 days, son, Terrel Prator Barber in 1966 and sister, Martha Prator Hall in 2016.

 

She is survived by two nephews, Richard Hall and wife Judy of Tulsa, Okla. and Drayton Hall of Macon, Georgia, niece, DeMaurice Ann Slinkard and husband David Slinkard of Tulsa and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
