Obituary of Murrel Ray Logan

Please share a memory of Murrel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On March 1, 2018, Murrel Ray Logan, comforted by his family, passed away at his Ardmore, Okla., home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 9, 2018, in the Mausoleum at Hillcrest Memorial Park of Ardmore with entombment to follow.

Murrel was born on July 7, 1929, on Rockport, Missouri,  and grew up in Maryville, Missouri. At 17, he gave up a career working in a carnival and moved to Washington State. He worked in a lumber mill where he met his future wife, Verma O’Brien. They married and soon moved to Southern California where he began a career in the aerospace industry. In the early 1950’s, he resumed his love of music and became a member of the highly acclaimed country western band, The Sagebrush Playboys, led by Ardmore’s own Leo Chaney. After almost 30 years, he was promoted (in aerospace, not the band) and transferred to the Sacramento, California area.  Murrel and Verma settled in the California gold rush town of Placerville. Murrel took part in the development of projects that included the first generation of cruise missiles and the space shuttle before he retired.  He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golf, and travel. In 2006, Murrel and Verma moved to Ardmore to be near family. After building their dream home and settling into Ardmore, the 2009 Lone Grove tornado destroyed this home. Rebuilding their home was just one of the many obstacles they overcame together in their 68 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his seven brothers and four sisters.

Murrel is survived by his wife, Verma, of the home; sons: David Logan and wife, Diana, of Ardmore, and Dale Logan and wife, Susan, of California, and daughter, Donna Guiles of Idaho; six grandchildren: Michelle Roberts and husband, Dr. Court Roberts, of Ardmore, Emily Delgado and husband, Rene Delgado, of Texas, Russel Logan, of California, Antoinette Duran, of California, Matthew Logan, of Idaho, and Byran Guiles, of Idaho; eight great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Hanna, Dinah, and Micah Roberts, Ryan and Ashley Delgado, and Juliana and Kira Logan.
