Margie Sue Harkins, age 88, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, November 13, 2017, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest of Ardmore, Okla. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.

Margie was born on July 13, 1929, in Ardmore, Okla. She was the youngest of five children born to William Elton Alexander and Myrtle Dee (Balthrop) Alexander. Margie met the love of her life, Bill Harkins, in 1944 at the Skating Rink in Ardmore. The couple married on July 3, 1949, in Gainesville, Texas. She was a homemaker, and cared for their three children while her husband, Bill, was serving his country in Korea. She was a devout Christian who always put God first.

Margie taught Sunday School, Training Union, and worked in the Day Nursery at Calvary Baptist Church in Ardmore. She loved to spoil all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margie loved to cook for the family and have the entire family together. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends, fishing and camping, and baking. She also enjoyed watching OU Football, OU Softball, and especially loved the OU Band. Margie was a truly wonderful and loving person, who was not only a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, she was a best friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents: mother, Myrtle Dee Hamersly, and step-father, Jay, and father, William Elton Alexander; her sisters: Bernice Weatherly, Regina Bettes, and Patricia Alexander; brother, Aubry Alexander; great-granddaughter, Abigail Watson; parents-in-law, W.E. and Margaret Harkins; brother and sister-in-law, Jim Harkins and wife, Doris; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Dewey Teague, and Peggy and Harry Fore; and son-in-law, Robert Arterberry.

Margie is survived by husband of 68 years, Bill Harkins, of the home; daughter, Donna Arterberry, of Lone Grove, Okla.; son, Billy Harkins, and wife, Pam, of Allen, Texas; son, Jimmy Harkins, and wife, Susan, of Ardmore; grandchildren: Melissa Watson and husband, Jose, of Lubbock, Texas, Shawn Harkins and wife, Lori, of Ardmore, Michelle McGuire and husband, Alan, of Ardmore, Jeremy Harkins and wife, April, of Lone Grove, Jaren Arterberry and wife, Mimi, of Lone Grove; great-grandchildren: Kaylie Harkins, Cade Harkins, Kaitlyn Pollard, Sarah McGuire, Jacob McGuire, and Olivia McGuire, all of Ardmore, Caleb Watson and Noah Watson, both of Lubbock, Kasson Harkins, Bryson Arterberry, and Brody Arterberry, all of Lone Grove.

The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital including ICU, Mercy Rehab, Victory Home Health, and the entire loving staff of Southbrook/Alpha Home Health and Hospice.
