Valerie Michelle Taylor passed away at the age of 46 on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at her home in Durwood, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 6, 2016, at the Durwood Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Taylor officiating. Interment to follow in Durwood Cemetery. Valerie was born on September 28, 1970, to Edward Lawrence Taylor and Alice (Tubbee) Taylor in Dallas, Texas. She attended Ardmore High School and Talking Leaves Job Corps in Tahlequah, Okla., where she met Jeffery Kale and was married in 1993. She became a CNA and began working at Mercy of Ardmore in 2002. When her marriage ended in 2004, she became a homemaker and cared for her family. She took a part-time position working at the Ardmore Children’s Shelter. In 2007, Valerie became the dispatcher for Johnston County Sherriff’s Department. Due to her health, she took an early retirement in 2011. This gave her more time to spend with her children and family. The devotion of time to family was important to her. She was a member of Durwood Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to fix her friends’ and families’ hair. Valerie enjoyed drawing native art and spending time with other artisans as well. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Danny Taylor and Ed Taylor, and one sister, Doris Taylor. Valerie is survived by children Malen Kale and Joshua Kale, both of the home. Eight siblings: Geraldine Taylor of Ardmore, Winston Taylor of Tishomingo, Margie Taylor of Durwood, Letha Taylor of Durwood, Richard Taylor and wife Sandra of Ardmore, Jennifer Taylor of Durwood, Eileen Hughes and husband Chris of Ardmore, and Stephanie Frank and husband Norman of Ardmore. Aunt Josephine Taylor of Durwood, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers will be Bruce Columbus, Norman Frank Jr., Justin Kale, Harold Marris, Andrew Taylor and Monty Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Scott and Raymond Ramirez Jr. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, October 5, 2016, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home.
