Obituary of Bette Jean Speck
Bette Jean Speck, age 93, was graciously welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, September 9, 2017, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September 15, 2017, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest with Reverend Terry Tolbert and Reverend Jimmy May officiating. Interment will be at Woodberry Forest Cemetery in Madill, Okla.
Bette was born on July 25, 1924, in Eugene, Oregon, to Ben H. Mobley and Alta Mae (Fuqua) Mobley. She married Gerald D. Speck in Lawton, Okla., on December 7, 1942. Bette and Gerald lived their early years together in Lawton, Okla. After the end of World War II, the couple moved to Dallas where they lived for 15 years. Bette was a bookkeeper for finance and insurance companies during that time. Since 1976, she and Gerald have resided in Ardmore, Okla. She retired in 1986 after seven years as bookkeeper for Eleanor’s School of Dance at the YWCA in Ardmore. Bette proudly served as a volunteer at Ardmore Village for 10 years. She was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. Bette loved the Lord and read her Bible every day.
Bette’s beloved husband preceded her in death in 1996. They were married for 53 years and 8 months. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Johnny Anderson, daughter-in-law, Cathy Speck.
Bette is survived by her son Jerry Speck and daughter Terry Anderson, both of Ardmore, Okla.; brother, Don Mobley and his wife, Edith, of Arlington, Texas; brother, Robert D. Mobley of Whitney, Texas; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Gonzales, David Chase Gonzales, Susan Gonzales, Mark Brown, Mason Brown, and Logan Brown. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Speck, Kenneth Speck, Randy Anderson, David Anderson, Nicolas Gonzales, Heather Speck, and Bette’s Sunday School Class.
A time of visitation and support for the family will be held on Thursday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on September 14, 2017, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore.
