Obituary of Dorothy Marie (Tynes) Edwards

Dorothy Marie (Tynes) Edwards, age 88, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 9, 2017, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home with The Reverend George Harris Officiating. Interment to follow at Lone Cedar Cemetery in Johnson County, Okla. Dorothy was born on May 27, 1928, in Orr, Oklahoma, to Earl Tynes and Leatha A, (Kimbrell) Tynes. She attended Orr School through the fifth grade and at Baum School through the eleventh grade. Times being as they were, she had to quit and help support her family and later worked for and received her GED. Dorothy married G.C. Edwards on January 7, 1946. She was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where she taught children’s church. She worked at Adventist Hospital in central supply for over sixteen years as a nurse’s aide. In her spare time, Dorothy loved tending to her vegetable garden and raising flowers. When given the chance, she would go play bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sons: Garvis Edwards and Terence Edwards. Grandchildren: Michael B. Edwards, Charles A. Edwards, Terry J. Edwards, and Dorothy J. Eads. Eight brothers: Hershel, James, John, Eddie, Robert, Eugene, Jimmy, and Frank. Seven sisters: Nettie, Lela, Martha, Mary Lee, Joyce, Leona, and Cleona Tynes. Dorothy is survived by her sons: Gary Edwards, Curtis Edwards, and Jeff Edwards, daughters: Linda Edwards, Maria Henson, and Rebecca Eads. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Peggy and Ada Faye. Those serving as pallbearers will be Cameron Edwards, Toby Edwards, Travis Edwards, Jimmy Edwards, Justin Edwards, Cory Henson, Martin Thomas and Jonathon Thomas. Family visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore, Okla. Condolences may be left at www.griffinhillcrest.com.
