Delores June “Dee” Marris, age 67, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017, at her home in Overbrook. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Southwest Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Fleming and Pastor Bruce Kirby officiating. Interment to follow at McAlister Cemetery, Overbrook, Okla. Dee was born at Talihina, Okla., on August 13, 1949, to Williston Samuels and Miriam (Samuels) Samuels. She attended Carter Seminary and graduated from Ardmore High School. She attended college at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. She married Harry Dean Marris, Sr., on January 17, 1970, at Ardmore, Okla. Dee and Harry were one of the first couples to enlist in the United States Air Force Reserve together and both received honorable discharges when they left the service. Dee went to work for Western Electric working in assembly. In1974, they moved their family to Ardmore, Okla. She worked at Lakeland Manor before starting her career with the U.S. Postal Service. Dee worked as a Letter Carrier and then as a Sorter. She retired from the postal service in 2010. In her retirement, she worked as a cook at Dickson Schools until 2012. Dee attended Southwest Baptist Church for the past ten years. She liked to garden, sew, and crochet. She also loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, son, Dwight Marris, and infant daughter, Babygirl Marris. Dee is survived by her husband, Harry, of the home, son, Harry Dean Marris Jr., and daughter, Gwen Gray, and husband, Chris. Two granddaughters: Madie Gray and Jessie Gray, all of Overbrook. Sisters: Marcella Sue Hubbard, and husband, Galen, of Topeka, Kansas, Mary Madelyn Etheridge, and husband, Ron, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jeanett Maytubby of Battiest, Okla., and Doris Stoliby of Oklahoma City, Okla. Numerus nieces and nephews and a host of family. A family visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, January 25, 2017, at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore, Okla. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews.
