Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas Jerome Smith, Jr., lovingly known as “BigTime” to most, was born to Douglas Jerome Smith, Sr. and Melinda Sue Smith (McNeely) on March 4, 1968, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and departed this life on August 1, 2023, also in Ardmore. BigTime will be remembered for the countless lives he touched during his time on this Earth and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home. BigTime had an infectious personality and unwavering love for life. His charisma and boisterous personality were magnetic, drawing people from all walks of life into his endless circles of friendship. He possessed a heart of gold and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His generosity knew no bounds and his genuine kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. But don’t be fooled, BigTime had two great loves: the great outdoors and Oklahoma Sooner football. He found solace and joy in hunting, fishing, golfing, and winning Bedlam. These activities not only brought him immense happiness, but they also created cherished memories with his friends and family. Beyond his hobbies, BigTime was a devoted family man. He took immense pride in his role as a son, brother, uncle, and most importantly, father. His unconditional love and support were and will continue to be a guiding light for his loved ones as he leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. BigTime’s sense of humor was contagious, and he had the unique ability of lighting up rooms the moment he entered. His laughter brought joy to those around him, and his anecdotes and stories will be remembered with fondness by all who heard them. BigTime is proceeded in death by his grandparents Charles and Winnie McNeely, grandfather G.A. “Doc” Smith, grandmother Laura Maye Waddington, mother Melinda Sue Smith (McNeely), uncle Nicky McNeely, wife Brenda Smith, and nephew Billy Max Smith. BigTime is survived by his father Jerome Smith of Lone Grove, daughter Douglas-Ann “DA” Smith of Norman, son Addison Robertson of Ardmore, brother Richie Smith of Lone Grove, nephew Alec Smith of Lone Grove, aunt Cheryl Rogers and husband Ricky of Ardmore, uncle William McNeely and Wife Vicki of Lone Grove, Aunt Jovetta Calendar of Bettendorf, Iowa, Cousins Mandy Peoples, Charlie McNeely, Kevin McNeely, Jesse McNeely, and Charlie Calendar, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and special friend Kim Green. As we bid farewell to our beloved BigTime, we are comforted by the memories he leaves behind. His spirit will continue to live on through the stories, laughter, and love he shared. Honorary Pallbearers: Richie Smith, Alec Smith, Ricky Rogers, William McNeely, Charlie McNeely, Kevin McNeely, Charlie Calendar, Jim King, TJ Riley, John McLemore, Bruce Palmer, Gaylon Taylor, Sean Davis, Scotty Foster, John Dobson, Donny Johnson, and JJ Hornback.
