Obituary of Doug Hayes, Sr.

“Papa” Doug Hayes, Sr. departed this life on July 28, 2023, in Ardmore at the age of 84. Doug lost his life after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest. Services will conclude in the Chapel. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore, Okla. Doug was born to John H. Hayes and Viola A. Clark Hayes, February 1, 1939, at Lindsay, OK. Doug graduated from Doyle High School, Foster, Oklahoma in 1957. He and Mary Grigsby married October 26, 1957, at Bray Baptist Church. Doug worked as a tank truck driver in his early employment days. After Mary graduated from high school, he secured employment with Lane Wells Wireline, which was later bought by Dresser Atlas. The base was moved to Ardmore Ok from Lindsay Ok, where he and Mary moved in 1962. After several years of employment with Dresser, Doug started his own wireline company in 1980 called Hayes Evaluation, Logging and Perforating, Inc. aka HELP, Inc. He ran his business for approximately 26 years. He loved to fish, took great pride in his golfing. His senior team won many tournaments, and he shot a hole in one at Dornick Hills. When his children were little, he coached little league football, baseball, and basketball for all three of his children. He worked long hard hours, sacrificed his free time to spend as much of it with his children as possible. His quiet strength was present throughout his life, blessing his family. He is survived by his sister Doris Jo Hayes Elmore of Lindsay, three children, Doug Hayes Jr, and John Hayes, and Teresa Duncan, sister-in-laws: Ruth Hayes, El Reno, Diane Grigsby of Wardell, MO and Joyce Grigsby of Ardmore, Oklahoma. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher Hayes, Aaron Hayes and wife Stephanie, Rylee Hayes, John Hayes, JR and wife Rachel, and Bruce Crowson, all of Ardmore, Russell Price and wife Samantha of FL, Whittney Hayes Hunter and husband, Brandon; Erika Price all of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and Katrina and Wes Cole, of Allen, Texas. He is also survived by the following great grandchildren, D.J. Fields, Landon and Addilyn Hayes, John and Logan Hayes, Madison Wood, Mallory, Olivia and Chloe Hunter, Brailee Gaines of Lone Grove, OK. He is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Debra Hayes and Sandra Hickman of Ardmore, Oklahoma, many cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Viola Hayes, wife Mary E. Grigsby Hayes, by his brothers, Ray and W. O. Hayes, sister, Darla Juanita Hayes Davis, and granddaughter, Sarah Hayes. He was also preceded by his in-laws, Fielding and Edith Grigsby, brothers-in-law Kenneth E. Davis, Fielding, Tony and Don Grigsby and sisters-in-law, Diane Grigsby and Nancy Ritter. Pallbearers will be Aaron Hayes, John Hayes Jr., Russell Price, Bruce Crowson, Brandon Hunter, and Kevin French. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Maranatha Freewill Baptist Church, PO Box 854, Ardmore, OK 73402 or to a charity of your choice. A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Griffin~Hillcrest.
