James Samuel Wilson, age 94, passed away December 23, 2025, at Irving, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2026, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Sam was born on September 12, 1931, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Andrew Floyd Wilson and Susie Barns. Sam attended Plainview Schools where he met the love of his life, Doris June Jones. June and Sam dated for four years before marrying on October 31, 1953, at Gainesville, TX. Sam and June both worked for Colvert Dairy Products in Ardmore before moving to Forest Grove, OR. Later they relocated to Portland, OR. In 1973, the family moved to Ft. Worth, TX and they opened Wilson Motors. Sam and June worked together until they retired in 1993. During this time, they moved to Irving, TX in 1977 where the couple has lived since. The family Purchased Super Bowl speedway in 1989 in Greenville, TX and sold it in 1993. Sam continued to live in Irving after the passing of June in 2012. Sam loved auto racing and watching baseball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, June Wilson, daughter, Jackie June Henson, granddaughter, Cari Porter, two brothers, Floyd Wilson and Kenneth Wilson, and sister, Vivian Preston.
Sam is survived by his grandson, Sean Palmer and wife Cori, of Royse City, TX, granddaughters, Robin Waters and Melissa Craddock, grandson-in-law, Chris Porter, great-grandchildren; Marcus Palmer, Meagan Ross, Justin Porter, Jessica Porter, , great-great-grandchildren: RJ Palmer, Skylar Palmer, and Hunter Palmer, his brother Lee Ray Wilson and brother in-law, Sam Jones, Jr., of Joplin, MO.
