Shirley “Darlene” Labeth, age 71, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Wilson, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 10, 2025, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla., with Pastor Ron Elmore officiating. Private interment to follow.
Darlene was born in Borger, Texas, on November 1, 1953, to Edison Ray Dewberry Sr. and Margaret (Turner) L. Dewberry. She attended Dickson, Okla., schools, and she worked for Ruby’s Cafe while in school. Darlene met James Cross in 1969, and the couple got married in Mexico. From this marriage, came their son, Jimmy. Their marriage ended in 1974. She met Jodie Labeth, and they were married on November 24, 1975, in Dickson, Okla. She became the receptionist for Schwab Pontiac for a time. Darlene became the receptionist for TOTCO Oil and worked at Citizens Bank as a teller. Then the couple owned and operated a liquor store, convenience store, and an insulation company. They closed their businesses in the 1980’s. She later worked as a waitress for Cattle Rustlers Steakhouse, Ardmore, and at Jimmy D’s Catfish in Wilson, Okla. In her spare time, Darlene enjoyed yardwork, sewing, and crafting. Spending time with her family was the highlight of her day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jodie Labeth, and infant sister, Emma Dean Dewberry.
Darlene is survived by her son, Jimmy Cross and wife, Tina. Grandchildren: Brittney Arnold and wife, Jackie, Corbin Cross and wife, Delyssa. Great-grandchildren: Ayanna Lawrence and husband, Taylor, Keyara Miller, Makayla Cross, Jeremiah Cross, Adyson Cross, and Kylo Cross. Great-great-grandchild, Axton Lawrence. Brother, Ray Dewberry Jr. and wife, Carolyn Ingle. Sister, Barbara Dunlap and husband, Charles. Nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, February 9, 2025, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore.
