
Obituary of Audrey Emily (Massera) Pruitt

Audrey Emily (Massera) Pruitt, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 15, 2025, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home with interment to follow in Provence Cemetery, Ardmore, Okla.
Audrey was born at Arroyo Grande, California, on March 22, 1938, to Pio Massera and Pauline (Agnew) Massera. She attended Arroyo Grande Union High School in San Luis Obispo County on California's Central Coast, where she lettered in softball and chorus with the AGHS "Eagles". She graduated with the class of 1956 and took a position as a waitress with a catering company. She met Harold Pruitt and the couple married at Alameda, California, on July 28, 1957. They moved to San Diego where Harold was stationed at Naval Base San Diego. In 1959, they moved to Hobart, Okla., where Audrey continued being a homemaker. She later worked part-time jobs and sold Avon and Coventry Jewelry.
For three years, she oversaw the dining hall for the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. In 1971, the family moved to Ardmore, Okla., and they purchased the Comet Drive-In and Restaurant where they served the community for 47 years. She also worked part-time for the Ardmore Day Nursery for 16 years. They were members of Southern Oklahoma Square Dance Club for over 20 years and the Blue River Car Club for many years. They loved to go camping to South Padre Island, Texas, NASCAR Speedway, and later started going on two or three cruises a year.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold Pruitt, son, Ricky Dean Pruitt, sister, Deloris McDonald, and brothers: Donald “Dude” Watson, and Charlie Watson.
Audrey is survived by her children, Albert Pruitt of Grapevine, Texas, and Lisa Jean Layton and husband, Rex, of Ardmore, Okla. Six grandchildren: Shane, Michael, Courtney, Robert, Jeron, and Kimberly. Ten great-grandchildren: Silas, Alice, Wyatt, Dalton, Dylan, Kirsten, Mikayla, Nathan, Addison, and Kayden, and sisters: Shirley Duffield and MaryJane Anderson, brother, Albert Watson, sister-in-laws, Sandra Watson, Dela Watson, and Linda McCannon, cousin, Marie Wilkinson and many other extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore, Okla.
