Bill Dale Talkington, age 85, passed away on January 29, 2025, in Ardmore, Okla., peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Provence Cemetery led by Pastor John Hatfield. He was born February 14, 1939, 2 miles north of Sulphur, Ok to Jewel "JB" and Ida Talkington. He was a member of the Dickson Class of 1957. He met Mary Alford at the age of 14. They were married December 19, 1959 in Ardmore, Ok. Bill was known to most as "Pa". He was a faithful member of the Dickson First Baptist Church. A lifetime Honorary 4-H member he participated in the Carter County Free Fair yearly. He was a dedicated blood donor having donated almost 5 gallons during his lifetime. He loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Every summer he planted a large garden growing vegetables, watermelon, and cantaloupe to hand out at church and around town. Bill loved all things western and cowboy. He collected spurs, blacksmith tools, antiques, and horse drawn equipment. Welding horseshoe art was one of his talents. He enjoyed plowing the garden with his team of work mules or riding trails on his horse. He traded horses, mules, and donkeys and once brought home a wild team of mules that ran away with the wagon. "Buford” was his last work mule and he made the newspaper due to his enormous size of 18 hands tall. Bill worked many jobs. Living at Goddard Ranch in the 60’s he worked as a ranch hand riding fences and checking cattle. He later drove delivery trucks for Fairmont Milk and City Produce. He managed Broadlawn Phillips 66 and North Commerce Phillip 66. Working as a mechanic he ran one of the last full-service stations around. After retiring he decided to go back to work full time. He said his favorite job of all time was working as the groundskeeper for Ardmore Institute of Health. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Gladys Webb and grandson Jared Smith.
